The four moments that decide almost every game
This is where most players hesitate. Here is how the Masterclass takes each one apart, with real tiles on the screen.
You need one more tile for a pair, and you're holding a Joker.
Instinct says use it. But a Joker can never finish a pair, a single, NEWS or the year. Put it there and your hand is dead, with no way back.
The lesson turns the rule into a simple yes-or-never chart, then has you practice on a real line until it's automatic. Decision made in two seconds, every time.
From Lesson 2.4 · Where Jokers Go
Three tiles to pass, and thirteen to choose from.
The Charleston is where hands are won or lost, and most players pass on instinct: a lonely tile here, a third suit there, and sometimes the pair someone else was waiting for.
You'll see a real rack, the misfits marked one by one, and why each one goes. You'll pass with a plan instead of a hope.
From Lesson 4.3 · What to Keep, What to Pass
Late in the game, one discard could end it.
Your opponent has exposed four 4 Craks and three Red Dragons. You're holding a 5 Crak, a Red Dragon and a 9 Dot. Which one is safe to throw?
The defense module gives you a simple ladder, from the safest tile to the riskiest. You'll stop handing the game to the player who's about to win.
From Lesson 8.2 · Safe Discards
Someone calls Mah Jongg on your discard. Who pays what?
Scoring is the part almost every course skips, and the part that starts the most arguments at the table.
The Masterclass walks through every case: a win on a discard, a self-picked tile, a jokerless hand, a wall game and a dead hand. You'll know the answer before anyone asks.
From Lesson 6.2 · Scoring and Paying
Everyone gives you a cheat sheet. Nobody shows you how to use it.
Filmed games are hard to follow: the camera is too far away, the tiles are too small, the explanation goes too fast. In the Masterclass, every tile, pass and call is drawn clearly on screen and explained by a calm, friendly voice, with captions. Here are three short excerpts.

Imagine your next game night, a few weeks from now.
You sit down, rack your tiles, and the card makes sense at a glance. You pass in the Charleston knowing exactly why. You spot the Joker you can win back. You see the dangerous tile, and you hold it.
And when someone at the table asks "wait, can she call that?", you're the one who knows the answer.
That isn't luck or years of practice. It's simply knowing the game properly.

Frequently asked questions
Is this right for complete beginners?
Yes. The Masterclass starts with the tiles themselves and builds one step at a time, all the way to strategy and defense. No experience needed.
I already play. Will I still learn something?
Most players who learned at the table have gaps in Joker exchanges, scoring, dead hands and defense. Modules 5 to 10 are written for exactly those gaps.
How is this different from free videos?
It's complete and in order. Every rule is drawn clearly on screen instead of filmed from across a table, each lesson teaches one idea, and every lesson ends with a short quiz.
Do I need the official NMJL card?
Yes. Every winning hand is printed on the National Mah Jongg League card, and each player needs her own. The Masterclass teaches you to read it; it doesn't replace it.
What happens when the new card comes out?
Modules 0 to 10 teach skills that stay the same from year to year. Module 11 covers the current card. [YOUR UPDATE POLICY]
How long does it take?
About an hour of video in all. Most lessons run about two minutes, so many players watch one module a day.
Can I watch on my tablet or phone?
